Artists Biography
Nidhi Samani, a British-Indian artist based in UK and Singapore, is a dynamic practitioner whose work spans a wide range of mediums, from oils and acrylics to charcoal, mixed media, and Chinese brush painting. With a background in fashion design, Nidhi’s artistic journey evolved from a deep interest in illustrating the expressions of the human experience to a profound exploration of the inner self through visual art. Her approach to painting is rooted in the belief that art serves as a conduit for self-enlightenment, a sentiment echoed in John Olsen’s assertion that "Painting is a means of self-enlightenment."
In her current body of work, Nidhi delves into the themes of "Journeys" and "Singapore Blooms," capturing fleeting, Zen-like moments that resonate on a subconscious level. These moments, etched in memory and carried through the senses, are immortalized as what she describes as "fossils of the mind." In her exploration of these ideas, Nidhi combines both traditional and contemporary techniques, weaving together the fluidity of Chinese brush painting with Western artistic methods to create works that evoke the serene and the sublime. The result is an art that transcends the physical, reaching toward a more meditative and introspective space where the viewer can connect to both the inner and outer worlds.
Her work is deeply influenced by the natural world, as well as by the principles of mysticism and enlightenment. Nidhi’s ongoing investigation into how art can capture the essence of nature—its fleeting beauty and inherent calm—manifests in the vivid, multi-layered compositions she creates. For her, painting is not only a process of artistic creation but also a journey of spiritual discovery, an attempt to interpret and communicate the subtle interplay between the mind, memory, and the external environment.
Her work has found a place in private collections around the world, including in Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Kenya, New Zealand, Switzerland, and the UK. Notably, her pieces were exhibited at the British High Commissioner to Singapore in 2018, a testament to the resonance of her practice within the global art community.
In Nidhi’s oeuvre, the confluence of personal memory, nature, and artistic expression creates a rich, layered dialogue between the viewer and the work, offering an invitation to pause, reflect, and engage with the deeper currents of existence.
